Gun Definition

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

I see this morning that at least 796 folks who have participated in the latest Chattanoogan poll have fallen for another poorly worded question on firearms.

By “rapid fire” are we talking about full auto capable weapons aka machine guns?

If so, they are tightly controlled under the National Firearms Act and have been since 1934.

After 1986 it became no longer legal to manufacture new machine guns at all, controlled and registered or not.

That said then are we talking about semi-automatic rifles and handguns?

Are we talking about “bump fire” stocks?

I wish we could at least figure out what it is we’re asking about with these kinds of poll questions about firearms.

I also wish the media could, just every once in a blue moon, research a story by actually finding out what an “assault “ rifle is and isn’t and the difference between an AR-15 and a M-16/M-4 and what makes one a proper infantry rifle and the other a civilian version unsuitable for the modern battlefield.

Maybe they could research the difference  between taking controlled full auto fire and the “spray and pray” inaccuracies of a bump stock or any of the other things like rubber bands and belt loops that try to simulate full auto with a rifle that isn’t designed to fire that way.

Or how changing out a 30 round magazine as opposed to a 10 round magazine is going to make any difference to the victims in a mass shooting in a “gun free” zone?

How about we poll people who have had to use a firearm to protect themselves or others from harm as opposed to those who were possibly harmed and wished that they had a firearm on their person when the harm was committed?

I wonder what we would hear from that conversation?

As a responsible gun owner who has never harmed anyone with one of my firearms, I am tired of the hypocrisy I see in the media every day on the subject of “gun control”.

“Gun control” is a synonym for “citizen control”, it’s not about crime or safety, it is all about control of the “unwashed masses” and it would be refreshing if the voices calling out for “gun control” would just drop the dissembling and hypocrisies and say what they really want.

Then the American people could better decide what they want for themselves once the unvarnished truth is out there.

I ain’t holding my breath.

Cameron Hill (What If?)

I enjoyed looking at the photo article of Cameron Hill, but did so with a sense of sadness and loss. As an old man, retired, I have plenty of reflecting time. I was just a kid, barely 10 years old, when the destruction began, but even in those days I paid more attention to the news than a 10-year-old should, and I remember the controversy between the city and County Historian Zella ... Hixson Rally Tops Notre Dame In 5-4 Thriller

The Hixson Wildcats collected a dozen hits in Thursday’s baseball win over Boyd-Buchanan and they made it five wins in a row on Friday over Notre Dame, despite getting only half as many hits.
